How Laser Eye Treatment Corrects Long Sightedness
70Long sightedness, also known as hyperopia, is a condition wherein a person can see clearer in the distance than up close. People who are long sighted can still things at near distances but begin to experience eye strain, headaches, teary eyes, and even loss of concentration when doing so for long periods of time. Reading especially becomes difficult for people who suffer from hyperopia.
Because of this, long sighted people don't often realize that they have hyperopia. The negative signs that individuals feel when working up close are often attributed to other factors like boring reading materials or lack of sleep. Parents, too, often misdiagnose hyperopia as kids having lack of concentration and laziness.
While individuals who have hyperopia commonly treat this eye condition with spectacles or contact lenses, laser eye surgery is now an option to correct this. Mild cases of long sightedness would require glassses worn on an as-needed-basis only whereas more severe cases would need glasses on a more constant basis.
Laser eye treatment is generally recommended for people who have serious cases of hyperopia since those mild cases don't necessarily mind using eyeglasses for short periods of time, like when reading.
Lasik eye treatment is the most common type or procedure done. This process involves creating a flap on the front of the eye and vaporizing the layer beneath using a layer. The flap is then replaced over the eye and healing is usually expected in the course of the following weeks, requiring no stitches at all. However, eye drops are provided for comfort as well as to prevent bacterial or viral infections.
Results can be seen the following day, offering a clearer and much improved sight but full recovery is expected to last for at least six months.
Many cases are reported to have enhanced post-operative vision. To test vision, the conventional letter chart exam, which requires letters to be read, is not advisable as laser eye treatment success cannot be measured through this method simply because distance vision is already good prior to the surgery.
Rather, a standard optometric visual examination is performed to check if near vision is better after the operation. Refraction is a standard procedure during this process. In many patients, post-laser eye treatment results to patients no longer requiring eyeglasses.
Farsightedness is occassionally misdiagnosed as presbyopia. To differentiate the two eye conditions, presbyopia happens in the mid-40s. Those who suffer from presbyopia experience difficulty in focusing up close as well, primarily because the lens in the eye stiffens. It is an age-related condition that can aggravate distance vision if this occurs during the midlife change. Though it worsens with age, laser eye treatment can still be used to correct presbyopia, not without compromises however, as one eye is corrected to achieve clear distance vision while the other is treated to see up close.

Thank you. I had my eyes done eight years ago and the results are still stunning to me. I had to sign too many pages containing the many risks, but have no regrets.
